Description
Cinnamon Toast is a classic breakfast treat featuring thick slices of bread generously coated with a creamy blend of softened unsalted butter, sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. The mixture is spread edge-to-edge and baked to perfection, then finished under the broiler for a crisp, golden, bubbling topping. Enjoy this nostalgic favorite for a quick morning meal or comforting snack.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, well softened
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- pinch of salt
- 4 slices bread
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the softened butter, sugar, cinnamon, and salt together until smooth.
- Spread the cinnamon-butter mixture evenly over one side of each slice of bread, ensuring full, edge-to-edge coverage.
- Arrange the coated bread slices on a baking sheet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
- Switch the oven to broil. Broil the toast until the tops are deep golden brown and the sugar topping is bubbling—watch closely to prevent burning.
- Remove from the oven, slice in halves if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
For dairy-free, use plant-based butter; swap white sugar with brown sugar for a richer flavor. Use any bread type—brioche or whole wheat are tasty. Make ahead by mixing the spread up to 2 days in advance; store in the fridge. Leftover toast stays crisp if cooled, then kept loosely covered at room temperature for up to 1 day. Watch under the broiler—sugar burns quickly! If the spread is hard to mix, microwave briefly.
