Description

Cinnamon Toast is a classic breakfast treat featuring thick slices of bread generously coated with a creamy blend of softened unsalted butter, sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. The mixture is spread edge-to-edge and baked to perfection, then finished under the broiler for a crisp, golden, bubbling topping. Enjoy this nostalgic favorite for a quick morning meal or comforting snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, well softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 slices bread

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the softened butter, sugar, cinnamon, and salt together until smooth.
  3. Spread the cinnamon-butter mixture evenly over one side of each slice of bread, ensuring full, edge-to-edge coverage.
  4. Arrange the coated bread slices on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  6. Switch the oven to broil. Broil the toast until the tops are deep golden brown and the sugar topping is bubbling—watch closely to prevent burning.
  7. Remove from the oven, slice in halves if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

For dairy-free, use plant-based butter; swap white sugar with brown sugar for a richer flavor. Use any bread type—brioche or whole wheat are tasty. Make ahead by mixing the spread up to 2 days in advance; store in the fridge. Leftover toast stays crisp if cooled, then kept loosely covered at room temperature for up to 1 day. Watch under the broiler—sugar burns quickly! If the spread is hard to mix, microwave briefly.
