Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
- Cinnamon to taste (about 1 tsp recommended)
- Vanilla glaze (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or Dutch oven to 375°F.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter should be slightly lumpy.
- Gently fold in the diced apples and sprinkle in cinnamon to taste.
- Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, flattening slightly with the back of a spoon. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- While still warm, drizzle with vanilla glaze.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Apple Suggestions: Granny Smith apples provide a nice tartness, while Honeycrisp adds sweetness and a crisp texture.
- Homemade Vanilla Glaze: Whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tbsp milk, and 1 tsp vanilla extract for a simple glaze.
- Storage Tips: These fritters are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 day at room temperature or 2-3 days in the fridge. Reheat in the oven for best results.
- Gluten-Free Option: Use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend for a similar texture.
- Additional Add-Ins: For extra flavor, consider folding in chopped nuts or raisins.
