Description

Soft, chewy, and packed with chocolatey goodness, these Great American Cookies are a homemade classic that rival your favorite mall treat! Perfectly crisp on the edges with a gooey center, they’re incredibly easy to make and endlessly customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula.
  • Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers look slightly undercooked.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • Feel free to swap semi-sweet chocolate chips with white chocolate, dark chocolate, or even peanut butter chips for a fun twist.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
