Description

Florida Shrimp Pie is a savory and creamy seafood dish featuring tender, seasoned shrimp in a luscious filling made with heavy cream, sour cream, shredded cheese, and green onions, all nestled in a flaky pie crust. The pie is perfectly baked to golden-brown and is ideal for family gatherings, seafood lovers, or as a comforting main course. Enjoy the vibrant flavors of fresh shrimp combined with the richness of cheese and aromatic seasonings. Great for celebrations or weeknight dinners and simple to prepare in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pre-made pie crust
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Monterey Jack)
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add shrimp, season with Old Bay, salt, and pepper.
  5. Cook until shrimp turn pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and let shrimp mixture cool slightly.
  7. In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, sour cream or Greek yogurt, shredded cheese, and chopped green onions.
  8. Gently fold the cooked shrimp mixture into the creamy filling until evenly distributed.
  9. If using a homemade pie crust, pre-bake it for 8-10 minutes.
  10. Pour the filling into the pre-baked or pre-made pie crust.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes until filling is set and the top is lightly golden.
  12. Allow pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a lighter option or use different cheeses like Swiss for extra flavor. Prepare ahead by assembling the pie and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven for best texture. For soggy crust troubles, pre-bake the crust and avoid overfilling. If the filling seems too runny, add an extra tablespoon of cheese or a teaspoon of flour to thicken before baking.
