Instructions
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and sugar.
- Add the instant yeast and oil, then gradually add warm water while kneading until the dough is smooth and elastic (about 8–10 minutes).
- Cover the dough with a kitchen towel and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the Filling:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add chicken cubes and season with black pepper, salt, and paprika.
- Sauté the chicken until fully cooked and lightly browned, about 6–8 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- Assemble the Pastries:
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into your desired shapes (circles, squares, or triangles).
- Place a spoonful of the chicken mixture in the center of each piece, then top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
- Fold the dough over the filling and seal the edges tightly by pressing them together or crimping with a fork.
- Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Arrange the assembled pastries on a parchment-lined baking tray.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden, shiny finish.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown.
Notes
- Make-Ahead Tip: You can prepare the filling and dough in advance. Store the filling in the fridge and the dough in an airtight container until ready to use.
- Freezer-Friendly: These pastries freeze beautifully. Place them in a freezer-safe container before baking. Bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
- Customizable Filling: Swap the chicken for sautéed mushrooms, spinach, or spiced potatoes for a vegetarian version. Experiment with herbs or add chopped veggies for added flavor.
- Serving Ideas: Pair with garlic dipping sauce, ranch, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
