Description

Classic Spiced Pumpkin Bread is a moist, flavorful loaf infused with warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Made with pumpkin puree and a touch of applesauce, this bread offers a tender crumb with optional crunchy walnuts. Perfect for fall or anytime a cozy treat is desired, it’s easy to prepare and bake in under an hour.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 can pumpkin puree
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease two 8×4 inch loaf pans.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, ground cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate large bowl, beat sugar, applesauce, and eggs until fluffy.
  4. Blend pumpkin puree and water into the wet mixture.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture into the wet ingredients and fold gently.
  6. Fold in chopped walnuts if using.
  7. Divide batter evenly between the two prepared loaf pans.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow loaves to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For ingredient substitutions, you can replace all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a heartier texture or use maple syrup instead of sugar for added depth. Applesauce can be swapped with mashed banana. Make ahead by baking and storing wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. To prevent dryness, avoid overbaking and test doneness early. Walnuts add crunch but can be omitted for nut-free versions.
