Ingredients
- 6 small flour tortillas (4.5-inch street taco size)
- ⅓ cup salted butter, melted
- ¾ cup finely crushed vanilla wafer crumbs
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 20 oz canned apple pie filling
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Caramel sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush both sides of each tortilla generously with melted butter.
- Mix the crushed vanilla wafers and cinnamon in a shallow dish.
- Press tortillas into the crumb mixture, coating both sides.
- Let the coated tortillas rest on a wire rack for 5 minutes.
- Drape tortillas over oven rack bars or use a taco mold.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Remove and let cool for 5 minutes.
- In a saucepan, combine apple pie filling and heavy cream.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until bubbly and thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Spoon warm apple filling into crispy shells.
- Top with whipped cream and drizzle caramel sauce if desired.
Notes
For substitutions, use unsalted butter and add a pinch of salt if preferred. Tortillas can be baked ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to 1 day to maintain crispness. Apple pie filling can be substituted with homemade sautéed apples with cinnamon. If crumbs don’t stick well, brush extra butter.
