Description

Apple Pie Tacos feature crispy tortilla shells coated with cinnamon-vanilla wafer crumbs, filled with warm apple pie filling cooked with cream. This dessert taco combines classic apple pie flavors and textures in a fun, handheld form, perfect for a sweet treat with optional whipped cream and caramel sauce toppings.

Ingredients

  • 6 small flour tortillas (4.5-inch street taco size)
  • ⅓ cup salted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup finely crushed vanilla wafer crumbs
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 20 oz canned apple pie filling
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Caramel sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brush both sides of each tortilla generously with melted butter.
  3. Mix the crushed vanilla wafers and cinnamon in a shallow dish.
  4. Press tortillas into the crumb mixture, coating both sides.
  5. Let the coated tortillas rest on a wire rack for 5 minutes.
  6. Drape tortillas over oven rack bars or use a taco mold.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden and crisp.
  8. Remove and let cool for 5 minutes.
  9. In a saucepan, combine apple pie filling and heavy cream.
  10. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until bubbly and thickened, about 5 minutes.
  11. Spoon warm apple filling into crispy shells.
  12. Top with whipped cream and drizzle caramel sauce if desired.

Notes

For substitutions, use unsalted butter and add a pinch of salt if preferred. Tortillas can be baked ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to 1 day to maintain crispness. Apple pie filling can be substituted with homemade sautéed apples with cinnamon. If crumbs don’t stick well, brush extra butter. Avoid overbaking tortillas to prevent burning; they should be crisp but not dark brown.
